New EASA STC Approval obtained for Low-Frequency Underwater Locator Beacon Installations

We successfully applied for and were awarded the EASA Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) No.: 10084123, for the installation of Low-Frequency Underwater Locator Beacons (LF-ULBs) in Airbus A300, A310, A318, A319, A320, A321, A330, A340 & Boeing 737, 747, 757, 767, 777 aircraft, on the 18th of March, 2024.

The LF-ULB is a Line Replaceable Unit, allowing easier location of underwater wreckage in the event of an accident over water.  This STC authorises the installation of two LF-ULB models, namely, Novega model SID88, and Dukane Seacom model DK180, in the aircraft’s cargo compartment via two separate configurations.  For the configuration where the Novega SID88 LF-ULB will be installed, this STC also authorises the use of a LF-ULB arrestor extension, or a custom-made base designed by Aeroknow as well.

Both models are powered by Non-Rechargeable Lithium Batteries (NRLBs) and enable localisation of a submerged aircraft up to 22km (12 nautical miles) range, due to its 8.8 kHz transmission frequency.  It is automatically activated after immersion into water and has a minimum transmission time of 90 days.
